The beginning
The young girl smells it before she is even awake. Bacon. Eggs. Toast. It's Sunday so she knows that she has that peace, she knows she will have breakfast this morning. She can hear the sound of the pans moving the sizzle of the bacon and know that it's time to get up and see when breakfast will be ready. She opens her dark brown eyes and pushes the snarly brown almost black hair out of her eyes. Before she even gets out of bed she prays that the day will go smoothly, that she can eat her breakfast and not get into trouble.
She walks into the kitchen and into the small pink bathroom and looks at her face. Her small face, smooth, no freckles to speak of. Her hair is a mess but that's OK. Her teeth are a mess, so she tries not to smile too big. She takes a breath and goes into the kitchen and sets the table for breakfast. He comes out and tells the girl to pour him a cup of coffee, she jumps up, not wanting to be slow, pours the coffee and sets it down with just a splash of milk (not too much, not too little) and sits to wait for she to get the breakfast onto the table. She eats in silence, making sure not to chew with her mouth open so she doesn't get yelled at, they all eat in silence. After breakfast the girl brings her plate to the sink and waits for she and he to finish, once they are complete, she cleans the dishes as she pours the bacon grease into the can. The girl retreats to her room and turns on the small tv she has and watches whatever is on through the static, she stays quiet to keep him from getting angry. The day goes by, not much happens. The girl prepares herself for bed. Does her nightly duty of saying goodnight to she and he, kissing them both on the cheek and saying "I love you" even if she questions why love feels this way. Why she feels like she's not good enough and why she constantly feels like she's done something wrong. She's afraid of the dark so tries to breathe through the fear, she's afraid of freddy krueger coming up through the bed and taking her away. She dreams of someone telling her that she's beautiful and that she is loved. She dreams of all the things she doesn't get during her day to day.
She loves her dreams, because her dreams are her escape, her escape from the small apartment and her escape from the feelings that she has.
